Dhakuakhana Municipal Board was established on 2003 as Dhakuakhana Town Committee.
Dhakuakhana is one of the developing town in the Lakhimpur district. Dhakuakhana is a sub-division of Lakhimpur District in north-eastern state Assam. The Place is bounded on the east by Brahmaputra and Dhemaji , to the west, by Subansiri river and North Lakhimpur. To the north Dhemaji and to the south, Majuli river island and Brahmaputra river. Dhakuakhana consists of diversified population of several ethenic communities including Chutia, Mishing, Ahom, Sut, Deori, Konch. Majority of the population are Hindus, however there are also population of diverse faith such as Christianity and Islam.
Dhakuakhana is known as the land of Muga culture of Assam.
